What is it about?
Finding ways not to think and work in silos
This workshop is about breaking boundaries, so that the future of the Fens is shaped not for the few, but with all stakeholders in mind.
Taking stock of the challenges to the food sector in the Fens
Not everyone has the same concerns for the future of food in the Lincolnshire Fens. It’s important that those concerns are heard, so that they are not ignored by those who can do something about them. We’ll talk about markets, infrastructures, natural hazards/climate, policy, and whatever else needs to be put on the table.
Thinking about the future we want
What is it that we are aiming for? Can it be done? If we’re not sure it can, how can we find out? Who can support us and how?

We invite growers, farmers and professionals involved in food production, processing and distribution in the Lincolnshire Fens to a series of workshops to explore possible futures of food in the fens.
In this first workshop, we will explore collectively the current and foreseeable challenges to producing, processing, and transporting food in the Fens.
We will build on the experience of local farmers, processors, retailers, IDBs, local authorities, the Environment Agency, and others who live and work in the Fens.
Through discussions, punctuated by snippets of information on current trends and projections, we will explore what the future holds for food in the Fens, and how those who work and live in the Fens can shape its future.
The workshop will be run by Dr Julien Etienne, independent consultant, who has been conducting interviews on the future of food across Lincolnshire in 2022.
If you live and work in the Lincolnshire fens, and especially if you are directly involved in farming, food processing or distribution, we invite you to apply for a place on this workshop.
Participants will be selected to ensure a balance of representation.
