Organistions tackling food poverty
Friendship through food
Mint Lane Café provides a warm welcome to the Involve@Lincoln wellbeing centre, which brings people together to combat isolation, loneliness and encourage positive mental health and well-being.
Reducing food waste by taking retail surplus, it provides friendship, affordable meals and groceries in a ‘Thrifty Shop’.
Training is provided for volunteers in all aspects of café work.
We Are One Foundation
We Are ONE was founded in Grimsby in 2016. The organisation provides support for people facing food poverty including the homeless, those in hostels, the elderly and families in financial distress. Feeding those in need for free and on a voluntary basis, they will support anyone who asks, without prejudice in respect of circumstances, gender, race, religion or age.
Acts Trust’s mission is to Empower People to End Poverty.
Working with local people, they find local solutions to local problems together, which has led to many projects starting in the City such as Energize (youth work), Restore (learning opportunities and community for Adults) and Night Light Cafes (mental health crisis cafes) in partnership with local churches.
Acts Trust has run Lincoln Foodbank since 2008 and are developing plans for a Waste Food Supermarket in the City to tackle both food waste and food poverty. Read more here.
Lincoln Fairtrade City
Fairtrade seeks to address the inequalities in global trade by providing fair, stable prices for producers & farmers, and investing in community projects.
You can get involved in promoting Fairtrade in Lincoln as a campaigner, a community group or a business.
Community Assets Plus
Community Asset Plus is a Lincolnshire charity that manages assets of physical property for the benefit of community organisations, charities and social enterprises
Oasis Academy Parkwood
This caring primary school runs Parkwood Pantry – a FareShare supported affordable shop for the local community – including local pensioners as well as school families.
They also have a kids’ veggie garden and school farm, where children can learn about where food really comes from, and participate in food growing!
Cooperation Brigg (The Low Villages Pantry)
Cooperation Brigg is a rural based food coop, dedicated to supplying a range of produce on a weekly basis to its members for as little as £4 per household.
As part of the Cooperation Town network we hope to see the network expand to further support local communities by helping new groups starting up in local areas.
Cooperation Humber (Barton-Upon-Humber)
A local buying group, which offers members quality groceries at affordable prices.
The co-op sources food and other household products in bulk and distributes them to members at cost value – also for free!
The co-op is owned and organised by its members, who together decide what to buy and how to run the project.
Slow Circular Earth
Our Slow Circular Earth network currently includes two Community Food Coop’s and a pop up Zero Waste Cafe, twice a month where you can enjoy light refreshments with us and grab a bag or box of rescued food to go!
The Oswin Project builds a bridge of opportunity between prison and outside to give second chances and prevent re- offending through work in the food and farming sector and other enterprises.
Good Food Businesses
Doddington Farm Shop
Opened in 2007, the Farm Shop at Doddington Hall was born out of a passion for good quality, seasonal, local food.
You’ll find fruit and vegetables with zero food miles freshly picked from the Kitchen Garden, beef in the Butchery often from the Estate herd of Lincoln Red cattle, Doddington honey and an abundance of produce from local suppliers.
Nutritionally balanced plant based recipe boxes for Lincoln delivery. Ingredients sourced from local suppliers and packaged as plastic free as possible.
Also, practical workshops for corporate settings, community and education groups to promote the inclusion of more veggies and ‘good stuff’ in their everyday eating to benefit physical health, energy levels, productivity and overall mental well-being too.
‘The VEG OUT Community Project’ supports non profit work to benefit the community through food.
Hall Farm Eastoft CIC is a care and working farm offering activity based sessions for adults and children.
Participants can to take advantage of the natural environment to improve their health and well-being, learn and get involved with the process of producing healthy food in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.
All Good Market
All Good Market is a zero waste and local food shop in Stamford, Lincolnshire, educating and inspiring Stamfordians to shop sustainably by connecting them with local farmers and producers.
You can fill up your own containers and by as little or as much as you like, reducing packaging and food waste. Click & collect and delivery services also available.
South Ormsby Estate
South Ormsby Estate is working to provide opportunities for people to start up their own small food business using things that can be grown locally.
La French Maison
La French Maison is an e-commerce in Lincoln that promotes a plastic-free and eco-friendly lifestyle.
They are currently putting together a range of delicious artisan French food hampers that will be released later this year. La French Maison only work with passionate artisans and small independent suppliers because they believe that they hold the key to a more authentic way of living: closer to nature and closer to people.
The planet and the environment is at the core of everything they do.
Boggle Lane Foods
Nikki grows and forages for natural plants, herbs, berries and fruit, and works with real artisans, local farmers and suppliers who are proud of their produce and care about the way their animals are reared, the countryside and its resident wildlife. Boogle Lane foods offer forage workshops, cookery classes and banquets.
Holly’s Garden Kitchen
Holly’s catering emphasises nourishing, fresh, seasonal, plant-based food. Her choices around sourcing and packaging are deliberately designed towards minimising waste and environmental sustainability.
Cotehill cheese is made from the unpasturised milk from their own resident cows at Osgodby near Market Rasen, and is sold locally, including Lincoln Farmers’ Market.
The catering department of the University of Lincoln producing and serving homemade meals, snacks and sandwiches for students and staff of the University.
Grimsby Community Energy
GCE develops local, community-owned, renewable energy projects and raises awareness of their benefits. It is committed to reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions, sustainably.
GCE is a partner with the Lincoln Food Partnership in the Feeding Tariff project.
We grow, process and sell organic, open-pollinated seed for the UK and beyond, and develop new varieties through organic plant breeding, to support the collective work of those striving towards making agro-ecological farming and food sovereignty a reality. We want you to know where your seed comes from; who grew it and where, and even who bred each variety.
Bailgate Independent publishes two local magazines – Lincoln’s premier monthly glossy the Bailgate Independent, which includes articles on local food, and the city’s cover-all listings publication The Hello Lincoln What’s On Guide.
Both are produced at their little office on Burton Road, Lincoln, serving the city, its residents, businesses and visitors.
EcoSerenity Project CIC
A community farm, food shop and serene woodland relaxation space, for education, socialising and mental health support.
The Inkpot is a working farm and permaculture demonstration site, sequestering carbon, regenerating the soil and supporting biodiversity as well as selling meat, eggs, wool and honey through short supply chains, and running a variety of courses and volunteer opportunities.
Cogglesford Watermill is a restored working watermill, producing stone-ground flour from grain sourced from Maud Foster Mill in Boston.
Our flour is available to buy from the mill during opening times, and various markets throughout the year.
Mrs Smith’s Cottage
At Mrs Smith’s Cottage we learn from Mrs Smith’s life to learn about growing our own food and making the most of the food we have in our cupboards to prevent any food waste.
Connected to her village, Mrs Smith knew how to shop locally and seasonally, making sure to preserve food for the winter and growing her favourite foods to enjoy over the summer.
Washingborough Academy is a Food for Life Gold Award winner, leading the way with positive food education embedded across their school curriculum. They are the only in-house school caterer to have been awarded the Soil Association’s Gold Catering Mark and are one of 19 schools in the UK to have the Food for Life Gold School Award.
“Food education and healthy lifestyles are incredibly important to us as a school. Each class cooks once a week and we are proud of how adventurous and skilled our young chefs become! As well as this, we also have a Snack Shack where, each week, a group of children prepare a healthy snack that is then sold a break time on a Wednesday. This not only provides our children with healthy food, it also enables them to learn fundamental life skills and develop an excellent awareness of food and the food choices they will make.”
Monks Abbey Primary School
Monks Abbey is enrolled on the Food for Life School Awards Package and is working towards their Bronze Award. As part of this work, they are developing a school food policy, involving pupils and parents in planning improvements to school menus and the dinnertime experience and providing every pupil the opportunity to visit a farm and take part in cooking and growing activities.
School acts as a food bank for families in response to need, including the Covid-19 crisis.
The Health Advancement Research Team of the University of Lincoln undertakes research on the relationships between food, physical activity and health, including preventing and tackling obesity, food growing, and food and the senses. HART undertook the research that founded the Lincoln Food Partnership.
A Lincoln-based charity which uses community gardening and horticultural therapy to help improve people’s lives. We work with vulnerable people, including those living with mental health conditions, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, long-term health problems and unemployment. We use gardening to build skills for life and work, improve mental and physical health and educate people.
A cafe in the Arboretum, that offers good, affordable food to the public as well as offering training, apprenticeships and other opportunities.

Fewer EU workers and the Covid-19 pandemic have left a gaping hole in the number of agricultural land workers.
HMP North Sea Camp – a men’s open prison on the Lincolnshire coast – provides training and work experience to prisoners, including agricultural, horticultural and other food-related work.
This presents a particular opportunity for Lincolnshire employers in the food and farming sector to contribute powerfully to the future of prison leavers as well as increasing the safety of our communities in the future.
