There’s a story behind this, so skip to the end if you just want to help me – no explanation required (thank you – you are doubly ace)!
So, I was looking for a lockdown birthday present for my brother in law – don’t worry, there’s no risk of him reading this and spoiling the surprise: he is currently working long hours for the NHS.
Now that there’s Covid on his ward, he’s had to isolate from his wife and baby. So his solitary birthday promises to be a bit meh, if not extremely depressing.
I had the idea to get him a birthday cake delivered – I got this idea from our local cafe Shanti, which is doing cakes to order. (Really great cake, incidentally – I have eaten enough of them to be very certain about this.) Candles through the post – he could at least blow them out and have happy birthday sung terribly to him over zoom. (Now I’m writing this, I am wondering if I am making his lockdown birthday better or worse…)
I’m pretty sure Shanti aren’t offering to deliver to Oxford, but then, happily, I found Ox in a Box – a guide to Oxford’s independent takeaway places, with details about changes under Covid19. Loads of really great local food places – and (according to my contacts on the ground) it was still missing some of them!
Gah – Oxford has all the best things! (Apart from Shanti cake, as it turns out.)
But why should this be?
Why could we not have our own Local Food delivery list in Lincoln – support local businesses during lockdown, make happy birthdays and celebratory meals happen for local people?
Why should birthday-boys and -girls in Lincoln not receive Shanti cake from rellies at a distance?
I know for certain there are loads of delicious local foods to be had in Lincoln – but compiling the details is a slightly daunting task for me (three kids, husband working, nuff said) so I need to ask your help to make this list happen:
