Washingborough Academy Steps up to the Plate!

With only the children of key workers at school, Washingborough Academy kitchens might have been ‘stood down’.

Instead, the school chef has expanded the provision of hot meals to include all children who would otherwise have free school meals.

And it doesn’t stop there:  the school is offering to deliver to all members of the local community who are over 70 and self-isolating.

Demand has grown nearly three-fold in the first week.

Washingborough meals

Delivery volunteers are all gloved and have school ID. Aluminium containers are left on the doorstep with guaranteed arrival between 12:15 and 13:00 so that the food meets all safety requirements for hot meals.

Allergies are being recorded, and payment – £2:50 for a meal – is tracked through bank transfer.

One elderly lady on the food run had not seen anyone for 2 weeks and spoke to the delivery person through her window expressing her gratitude.

Another 87-year-old resident had been to the school himself in 1937 and said that the school action made him feel proud.

Just for fun –
